7 Tips To Start An Organic Herb Garden For Beginners

Which plants should no-experienced gardeners start with? Herbs are the way to go. Most of them are easy to grow (with seeds and seedlings) and quick to harvest. You can plant them directly in soil in your garden or in containers. They do well both indoors and out. Many people even build a vertical indoor herb garden. This serves as a charming home décor while producing herbs for family cooking. Some herb varieties can help repel mosquitoes and flies. So good, right?

When growing different types of herb in a bed at the same time, you have a herb garden. And, of course, you can harvest plenty with your garden. And, here are 7 tips to start an organic herb garden for beginners I would like to share you guys. They will help you build your own herb garden and get maximum yield of it. This requires a little more skill, time and effort. If you prefer homegrown products, you should give these a go. I’ve tried with my backyard and found it worth.

#1 Choose your favorite herbs

If you have just started the gardening with herbs, just pick out some of the favorite types and focus on them. You don’t have much experience, so it will be easier to care for several varieties only. You may choose some that are mostly cooked in your home or used in a summery cocktail.

#2 Keep them indoor

Your seeds appreciate the indoor conditions to sprout. Plant them in a small flower pot or any DIY container, and be sure that excess water can drain from the pot. Once it stops freezing at night, keep them outdoors so that they can get used to the temperatures.

#3 Combine the right herbs

To let different types of herbs grow well in the same planter, make sure that you know they are companions for each other. For instance, lavender, oregano, sage, thyme and rosemary enjoy sun and very little water, so they can be planted together in a pot.

#4 Sow or plant your herbs in rows

It’s always great to plant herbs in rows. This enables you to pluck any weeds growing between your plants quickly and easily. Once provided with enough space, your seeds will grow healthily.

#5 Use organic mulch

As organic mulch is friendly to the environment and boost the nutrients and moisture in soil, why not use it for your plants? When growing herbs, make sure to use organic mulch in all your flower beds.

#6 Make use of laundry baskets

An old laundry basket will work with your gardening. If you rinse your produce in it, the water can easily drain out from the sides of the pot.

#7 Create biodiversity

It’s great to create the biodiversity in your garden. Planting different varieties will make your garden more beautiful and also bring you a lot of homegrown produce. Just make sure that you know how to care for your plants.
