“I deserved that”: Charlize Theron Was Shocked With Studio’s Reaction After Asking to be Paid Chris Hemsworth’s Salary in $165M Lukewarm Sequel

Charlize Theron has now become a household name after establishing herself as an action star. But before her action-star persona, she gained international acclaim with her leading lady roles in the 1990s. Having strengthened her acting portfolio, she is among the list of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood.

Given the versatility she has brought with her roles, she has the power to demand equal pay like her male counterparts. She once addressed how her studio reacted when she asked for an equal salary as Chris Hemsworth in The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

Charlize Theron Demanded Equal Pay as Chris Hemsworth for The Huntsman: Winter’s War

The 47-year-old actress, Charlize Theron demanded to get equal pay to Chris Hemsworth when the duo starred together in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. She played the antagonist in the film meanwhile the latter plays the lead role.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, she mentioned,

“I am in a position where I could put my foot down and say, I want equal pay to my male co-star, who I had billed another movie with.”

However, she was taken aback by the response she got from her studio.

“We were doing a sequel, we had done it together, why not? What was interesting about it was I had a studio that said all right.”

She mentioned that women should not be polite in asking what they are rightfully entitled to.

“And I was like, ‘oh? We just need to say this? We just need to not be so polite about it and say what we want’”

Both the stars were paid over $10 million for working in the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel.
